The opening scene of The Whale Rider illustrates a scene that at the beginning of the world, everything was full of emptiness, the grassland, the mountains, and the ocean. Everything was in a deadly silence. Although sometimes there were some birds flying across the sky, it still couldn’t make any difference. When I read this part, I felt a little bit depressed. I am afraid that nobody wants to live in a world that ruled by the endless silence. Everything seemed to be isolated because they didn’t communicate with each other. However, things start to change when an enormous creature abruptly existed on the ocean, the breakout of its first cry shocked the world, it was a whale! It seems like the whole world was woken up by the cry. The stone on my heart finally dropped down. Everything in the world become dynamic and they started to communicate with each other because of the loud cry. How about the whale? It suddenly disappeared in the ocean. But it is not gone forever, it will definitely appear again for another reason, I thought.
